School Based - Signs of Suicide (SOS) Specialist

Responsibilities: Implementing the Mindwise Signs of Suicide (SOS) program at the junior high and high school levels in designated Fairfield County districts; administer screening instruments to measure for suicidality and/or other mental health disorders; arrange and/or provide training, consultation and technical assistance in survey administration to school staff.

Conducting a face-to-face interview with students who show evidence of mental illness or suicide risk; inform parents of identified students of the test results; refer for mental health services as clinically appropriate; document services; consult with school staff regarding specific students and general mental health topics; collect and report screening data on a monthly basis; create and administer staff survey to measure the efficiency of the Signs of Suicide (SOS) program, and generate suggestions for improvement; provide educational services including classroom presentations, teacher trainings and parent education trainings; provides school-based emergency support services to staff and students in the event of a whole-school crisis as directed by supervisor or clinical director.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mental health related discipline; social work and/or counselor licensure (LSW/LPC/MFT). Position requires the ability to work cooperatively within the school setting; to be self-directed, dependable, organized and possess good communication skills; to be sensitive and attentive to the cultural needs of each student and family. Also required is a good working knowledge of the DSM-V.
